‘Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank’ is an excellent project to encourage the teaching of English in the National Curriculum. I attended for the second year running, and this year’s performance of Twelfth Night definitely met its purpose.
The modern spin of this 17th Century comedy allowed a young audience to enjoy and relate to this remarkable performance. We were warmed with laughter under the open top roof of Shakespeare’s Globe, whilst the cast maintained their powerful presence. The modern elements of this production kept the young audience engaged and entertained, regardless of the complexity of the language. There was singing, dancing and plenty of audience engagement as hearts melted, tricks were played and the plot thickened with suspense.
