Frankfurt to Seligenstadt – A day trip

Seligenstadt is a pretty town, southeast of Frankfurt, located on the River Main. If you also like the tranquility of typical German towns, Seligenstadt is a day trip worth doing!

Arriving in Seligenstadt

Seligenstadt is easily reachable from Frankfurt. Ideal for a day trip, I arrived in Seligenstadt around midday and headed back to Frankfurt in the late afternoon. You can get to Seligenstadt Bahnhof in under an hour by train and approx 30 minutes by car.

Seligenstadt Town Centre

Seligenstadt welcomes you with its typically German wooden facades, adding an extra splash of colour to this cosy town. If you’re hungry on arrival, there are plenty of restaurants and cafes to visit. I’d recommend ordering the bruschetta at II Cafe 🙂

Kloster Seligenstadt

The Kloster (monastery) is one of the only complete monasteries that you can visit in Hessen. It stands tall in Seligenstadt, so you certainly won’t miss it, and it’s definitely a memorable sight. I didn’t go inside myself, but I’ve heard it’s worth it so perhaps I’ll try that next time!

Klostergarten Seligenstadt

I was pleasantly surprised by the Klostergarten (monastery garden) Seligenstadt. Not only is it full of various flowers and fruit bearing trees, but hundreds of herbs that all come with an explanation of their medical use. If you can’t read German, it’s worth using Google translate for this one – I’m sure you’ll discover something new!

River Main

In typical German style, I got an ice-cream and took a stroll along the River Main. It’s super quiet compared to Frankfurt, but the tranquility was bliss!

Melting ice-cream in my hand and direct sunlight in my eyes meant that my selfie-game was not on point. I don’t feel the pic does it justice, but in real life this ice-cream was huge!
Having fun on the Main

Seligenstadt is a great day trip from Frankfurt! Have fun and feel free to let me know if you go inside the Kloster!
